What does the USC Comprehensive Aortic Center offer?

We offer comprehensive care for diseases of the aorta. Our approach ranges from endovascular stent placement and open surgical repair to medical therapy with monitoring.

Why focus on the aorta?

In the United States, 5 to 7 percent of people over the age of 60 have aortic aneurysms and 15,000 of these patients will die each year from rupture. Many more are affected by other forms of aortic disease. Our specialization enables us to treat a wide range of these life-threatening conditions with successful outcomes for our patients.

Anatomy of the aortic

The forefront of knowledge and expertise

The USC Comprehensive Aortic Center is widely recognized in the medical community as a leader and pioneer in treating aortic disease. While we are primarily known as a center of surgical excellence, we provide treatment options to suit each patient’s individual needs, ranging from observation to medical and surgical intervention. The Center, which brings new cutting-edge treatment, continues to push the frontiers of medical technology by participating in clinical trials and publishing our research. We are one of the first teams in Southern California to repair thoracic aortic aneurysms using a recently-approved endovascular device.

Our goal is to offer our patients the most advanced, effective treatments available. This includes less invasive procedures more suitable for patients who are poor candidates for traditional operations.

Treating the whole patient, not just the aorta

Confronting a diagnosis of aortic disease can be daunting. We strive to make treatment as easy as possible, emphasizing communication with the patient, the family, and the referring physician. A surgeon and his team personally manage every aspect of care, and our staff of skilled nurses and ancillary personnel coordinates scheduling, insurance issues, and follow-up care.

Comprehensive care means attention to every aspect of health. As part of Keck Medicine of USC, we have access to a complete array of medical specialists as well as the advanced facilities available at Keck Hospital of USC. From diagnostic evaluation to counseling and physical therapy, we see our patients through the crisis to optimal health.
